- The forehead of the mask features two sankofa birds with their heads tilted backwards. The Akan word sankofa means 'back to my roots'. The Sankofa represents going back home and learning from ones past. The border of the mask, eyes, and mouth are painted red. Below the eyes are two symetirical swords meaning protecton. It's made of osese wood and carved with an aluminum plate.
